What can you expect this year?
Reading:
We will begin our first reading unit over the next few weeks of school. Students will learn the rules, routines, and expectations for our reading time. They will learn that this time is meant to read together and grow as readers. As I get to learn more about my students as readers, I will work with them individually and/or in small groups to practice specific skills.

Writing:
The first portion of our writing time will be dedicated to teaching students about the importance of writing as well as an overview of how writer's work. How do writers get their ideas? What do writers do after they have an idea? How do writers put their ideas on paper and create their final piece? This writing time will give the children an opportunity to use their imaginations and be as creative as they want to be! We will also focus on important grammar lessons and have a structured schedule to practice spelling/phonics skills.

Math:
Students will spend time reviewing and practicing taught skills before being introduced to new skills, such as making number patterns and looking for patterns and relationships with numbers. We will use interactive whiteboard lessons and manipulatives to keep the learning as hands on as possible.

Social Studies/Science:
This year we will be doing as many hands on projects and experiments as possible in our science and social studies classes. We will be thinking like scientists and asking questions that help us become better problem solvers. We will also be learning a lot about what it means to be a good citizen, how we celebrate different cultures, and all about communities and their history.
